E.g. "str", "QgsVectorLayer", "QgsMapLayer", etc.
These values should should match the Python types exactly (e.g. "str" not "string", "bool" not "boolean"). Extra explanatory help can be used (which must be translated), eg "str: as comma delimited list of numbers".
